Control

Control

The control system ties the room together — touch panels and automation that power gear on and off, switch sources, and drive the displays and LED walls. It’s an AMX NetLinx system built around an AMX NX-3200 central controller (in the AV room left rack). The source lives in Automation/amx/ (Main.axs, include/, device module/s, and touch-panel files in TP/).

Network

  • VLAN 21, subnet 192.168.30.0/24, DHCP from the EdgeRouter, authoritative (yellow cabling). See Networks.
  • Control Switch — a Cisco SG-300 (192.168.30.206) in the AV room left rack; the Control Room Switch is an M4250 in the video control room. The Control VLAN reaches every AV switch, so control and wake-on-LAN work anywhere.

What the control system drives

The AMX modules and confirmed deployments:

Device Where
NovaStar H5 LED-wall processor drives the auditorium main + rear-confidence LED walls
LG multiview TVs (webOS) video control room — the switcher and shader positions
Sharp PN-LE901 displays auditorium balcony, green room, weekends office
Panasonic PT-EZ590 projector Atrium, over RS-232 from its SVSi decoder; its LAN doesn’t work — see Atrium projector (the auditorium has no projector — LED walls only)
NEC NP-V300W projector Legato, over RS-232 from its SVSi decoder; also networked — see Legato projector

Power control

Rack power is controlled in almost every case by Middle Atlantic RackLink PDUs (the RLNK-* devices — rack room, control room, wireless-cam, the server-room signage rack, plus older contact-closure units in M21-left and Under-Stage-Right). AMX does not drive the signage rack’s unit; it is switched by hand from its web UI. Two exceptions still in service: a legacy AMX REL-8 relay controller, and the NX-3200 itself, which currently switches power to the rear confidence monitor.

Two kinds of RackLink are in service, and they behave differently:

  • RLNK-915R (the room units, .15–.24): 8 individually-named switched outlets, driven by AMX and also switchable from the unit’s web UI.
  • RLNK-SW715R relays — RLNK-STAGE-RELAY (.25, Under-Stage-Right) and RLNK-M21-RELAY (.26, M21-left). Each has 5 switched outlets plus 5 dry-contact closures (the contacts trigger amplifier standby, keeping amps off the switched-outlet inrush). On these units outlets 1 and 2 are always-on (unswitched) and don’t appear in the web UI, so the switched outlets are numbered 3–7. AMX’s raw RackLink protocol (TCP 60000) is refused on these two, so they’re controlled from the web UI or its form endpoint: POST /OutletSubmit.cgi with outlet=<3-7>&command=ON|OFF|REBOOT (status is a CSV at /js/status.zhtml, outlet states in fields 8–12 mapping to outlets 3–7). The outlet/relay assignments live in Automation/amx/include/racklink.axi (rlnk_audio_system_on / rlnk_amplifiers_on):

    Stage relay (.25) Powers
    outlets 1–2 always-on
    outlet 3 dLive Mix Rack
    outlet 4 IP6
    outlet 5 ME1
    contact 9 / 10 Sub Amp 1 / 2 (standby)

Powering outlet 3 brings up the dLive MixRack (control interface 192.168.30.101, Dante card 192.168.10.103) without the amps — the amps are on the contact closures, so the console DSP comes up silent. The M21 relay (.26) contacts 9–12 are the main amplifiers. Normal shutdown turns the surfaces off before the Mix Rack, to give the amps time to discharge.
